Welcome

Welcome

Thanks for visiting. My goal in creating this blog is to help families live healthier by making good choices. It is a journey that I too have begun recently. So often the choices we make affect so many people. It is my hope that I can make a positive impact in this world by helping one family at a time!

There are many aspects to living healthy. This blog will initially be geared towards reducing the use of toxic chemicals in our homes. Everyday I am finding more and more reasons to avoid chemicals as much as possible. Our families need us to be making wise choices and I am here to help!

Here are a few staggering statistics that may encourage you to begin making some changes in the chemicals you use at home.
  • Women who stay at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who work outside of the home.
  • Over the last 50 years more than 80,000 new chemicals have been introduced into commerce through the products we purchase every day. Only about 200 of them have been tested for safety.
  • Currently 1 in 6 American children suffer from a developmental disorder, the majority having to do with the brain and nervous system.
  • Since 1980, asthma has more than doubled and is now the leading cause for school absenteeism and hospital room visits.
  • Every 40 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer.
Experts agree that these statistics are linked to toxic chemical exposure, especially in the womb and during early development. Don't get overwhelmed however! The easiest place for us to reduce the use of chemicals is in our home! And don't feel as though you have to eliminate EVERYTHING! Just think of it as a journey and begin by taking some very simple, cost effective steps.

Here are some places to begin.

Plastics. Bisphenol A, or better known as BPA is found in a multitude of plastics we use everyday and is known as an endocrine disrupting chemical(EDC). (See the World Health Organization article on EDCs listed under "Must Read Articles)
Reducing the use of BPAs is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Purchase reusable water bottles that are BPA free. Very easy to find these days!
2. Use glass, reusable food storage containers instead of plastic.
3. Reduce the use of canned food. They are often lined with materials that contain BPA.

Cleaning Products. Many of the products we purchase to clean our homes are harmful. Bleach is a known cancer causing agent. Sprays are often inhaled or absorbed through our skin. Stop wasting your money on these products and switch to Norwex Microfiber. It is a very high quality fiber that you can use in your home with just water. It's amazing and will save you so much money because they last for years!! Visit my website www.lisepampaloni.norwex.biz to get more information. (Linked below!)

Laundry Products. Most of the laundry products today leave a heavy residue on the clothes our families are wearing. These toxic chemicals are being absorbed into our blood streams through the skin. Stop using fabric softeners and dryer sheets and switch to dryer balls which reduce static and decrease dryer time. Use a safe laundry detergent that rinses off clothes completely. Norwex Ultra Power Plus is a great alternative and will last quite a long time. Use only 1 tsp per load for HE machines!!

This should get you off to a great start! Read the article by Amy Cadora entitled "Creating a Safer Haven for Kids". (link is listed under "Must Read Articles") She gives amazing information in a format that is so easy to read.

My prayer is that you will make just one change this month to eliminate some chemicals in your home. Please let me know if this information is helpful and how it has affected your family! I would love to read your testimonies.

Lord bless you.
